As we conclude this quarter, we hope everyone has made progress in building habits of SELF-DISCIPLINE over these many weeks. Our virtue focus for the second quarter is FRIENDSHIP. As we explore this virtue together, let us “encourage one another and build each other up” (I Thessalonians 5:11).

In this post, we continue our discussion of the virtue of discernment by noting that cultivating discernment requires guides. Listening to scripture and the words—spoken and written, past and present—of wise and mature Christians is necessary for us to grow in this virtue. Relying solely on our own wits is never a good idea, and when we consider how to navigate digital culture for ourselves and our children, we must recognize our utter inability to stay ahead of the digital deluge. At Trinitas we highly recommend a couple sources—Plugged In and Protect Young Eyes (PYE)—to help families make good choices regarding things to read, watch, listen to, and play.
Speaking of choices, we’re drawing your attention to the disturbingly popular show you may or may not have heard of yet—Squid Game is #1 in 90 countries. We recommend that you read reviews by PYE and Plugged In. Examples like this series and the recent TikTok “trend” of stealing and vandalizing school property to post as “trophies” make it clear that parents must be aware of what their children are viewing and doing online or even just hearing and observing from other kids being online.
Picture Day Coming Soon
October 28th, 2021Picture Day will be Wednesday, November 10, starting after Morning Prayer. Students may wear regular approved uniform options. Dress uniform is optional. Order forms will be sent home as soon as they are available. There will also be online ordering options.
Retake day will be January 26. An all-school picture will also be taken on that day. Dress uniform will be required for the all-school picture.
Maker Faire – Join Us Next Friday!
October 28th, 2021Parents are invited to view our Maker Faire next Friday, November 5, starting at 2:00 p.m. Please park in the upper lot and enter through the church narthex doors. Dismissal will still be in the upper lot from 3:00 – 3:15. Please remember that students who wish to stay for the Maker Faire after dismissal must be supervised by a parent or authorized adult (i.e., regular carpool driver) starting at 3:15.
Those who are participating in the Maker Faire should plan to stay until it is done at 4:00 p.m. and will need to take down their displays at the end.

Uniform Closet Sale – Thursday, November 11
October 26th, 2021Bring your dollar bills to conferences on Thursday! The uniform closet is overflowing, thanks to your generosity! All items will be on sale for $1.00. Come replace those pants from last spring that are now too short. Clothes will be available for sale on the honor system in the downstairs hallway. Please note the office will be closed during conferences, so change will not be available.

October 24th, 2021We concluded our previous post with the observation that a robust view of human reason will not only include virtues of intellect but virtues of character as well. One virtue that lies at the heart of this intersection is the virtue of discernment. “Discernment” comes from the Latin word discernere meaning “to see, discern, distinguish, separate.” It may be used in a variety of contexts, for example, someone with a “discerning eye” may have a knack for identifying things of particularly good quality. When we talk about discernment as a virtue necessary for human flourishing, we mean the ability to distinguish or separate good from evil. This requires two things: recognition of a standard outside of oneself and an act of the will.

October 23rd, 2021In Psalm 23, we read the familiar words: “The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. He restores my soul.” We live in an increasingly noisy and busy world with few opportunities to refresh our souls. Carving out quiet time and learning (or re-learning) how to enjoy it requires SELF-DISCIPLINE. How can we make room for soul-restoring quiet in our homes? Talk together about it and start building the habit this week.

October 21st, 2021We hope you saw last week’s announcement that the Maker Faire has been moved to Friday, November 5, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. Students will spend the last hour of the school day viewing the exhibits and learning from all the makers. We will still dismiss from 3:00 – 3:15 p.m. that day. Students who wish to stay for the Maker Faire after dismissal must be supervised by a parent or authorized adult (i.e., regular carpool driver) starting at 3:15.
