Feb 23- Thoughtful Reader Book Discussion (in school).  Kindergarteners are reading the Brambly Hedge stories for this.  Each student received a TR bookmark to record books that they are reading (or being read to them) at home.

What We’re Learning:

Phonics: This week we will focus on reading and writing with blends.  Students are also working on writing their names with capital first letter and lowercase following.

Math: We will continue to model and work with numbers to 20.

Geography: We are beginning a study of the continents.  This week we will learn about North America.

Science: We continue our study of materials.  This past week we learned about types of paper, and how paper is made.  This week we will find out what happens to paper when it gets wet, as well as why the qualities of types of paper make them useful for different purposes.  You may have noticed an increased interest in papers and paper crafts recently!

Bible Story:  We will learn about Caleb and Joshua, and spies who went into the Promised Land.

Virtue: As we focus on the virtue of PERSEVERANCE we are also working on the Discipline with Purpose skill of Communication. You can reinforce this skill at home by reminding everyone in your family to WAIT and listen closely until the other person has finished speaking and to THINK “what words can I use that will correctly and kindly represent what I want to say?”

Homework

For homework I am sending home two pages from a book called, “Simple Analogies”.  I hope you and your child will enjoy this exercise.  Additionally, we have Show & Tell on Monday.  The theme is “3 facts about an animal”.

Our Bible memory for February is Matthew 22:37-39.

Jesus said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment.  And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
