What We’re Learning:

Phonics: Students are learning correct letter formation as well as letter sounds.  These next two weeks we will focus on P, Q, R, rhyming words, syllables and creating simple sentences.

Poetry: We continue to memorize a traditional rhyme called “The Wise Old Owl” as well as a poem called “Work” from McDuffy’s reader.

Math: We will work with graphs and numbers up to ten.

Geography: We continue learning about Michigan.  This week students will paint our state stone, the Petoskey stone.

Bible Story: We will hear the story of Isaac and Rebecca, then Jacob and Esau.

Science: We will do an activity that demonstrates why leaves change color.  On Friday for our field trip, we will collect leaves that will later be made into a book.

Virtue Study: As we continue to cultivate the virtue of RESPONSIBILITY, we are also working in October on the related Discipline with Purpose Skills of Asking Questions and Sharing. An important part of being responsible for our own learning and for our tasks is to know when and how to ask questions. We also need to practice sharing our time, treasures, and talents.
