Keeping Skills Strong This Summer

June 17th, 2021

It is very important for students to spend the summer playing outside with family and friends, exploring the world around them, and reading for pleasure (alone or with others). We also encourage students to keep their language arts and math skills sharp so they are ready for the first day of school in September. Mrs. Bodine and Miss Mehari like the Grand Rapids Academic Summer Program (GRASP), which is a correspondence course with weekly lessons for reading, math, or both. You may also want to explore Summer Skills review books to help prevent “Summer Slide”.

Fun … Festivities … Field Day!

June 13th, 2021

It was one of our warmer Field Days in recent years, but that did not lessen the students’ enthusiasm or energy for this event that always brings excitement. Congratulations to the Blue team for their first place finish this year.

Thank you to our parent and alumni volunteers for helping with the stations and cheering on the teams. Thank you to our 2020 graduates who joined the teams and made the day even more special with their presence.

We also thank Mr. Fynewever-Muyskens for all the plans and work that led to another great year!

We also want to recognize the students for all the miles they logged during our Mileage Club this spring. They received prizes for their participation last week.

Discipuli Latini Fabulas Narrant (Latin Students Tell Stories)

June 13th, 2021

Our 5th-8th Latin students have been writing and translating and illustrating some wonderful story books, a Latin year-end tradition. Thank you to our 7th and 8th graders for sharing their stories with the K-4 students on Wednesday.

Thank you to the 7th grade class for their great translation work and their creative puppet work. They prepared a virtual “Latin at Lunchtime” Winnie-the-Pooh play for the school.

8th Grade Reader’s Theater

June 13th, 2021

Wednesday was a fun day of storytelling at Trinitas! In addition to our Latin story time, our soon-to-be graduates performed a reader’s theater adaptation of The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane.

Many of the students were familiar with this beautiful story about a lost soul trying to find his way home. It was a Thoughtful Reader Book Club selection two years ago and would make a great summer reading selection for the entire family, if you haven’t read it yet. (Watch for our summer reading list coming soon!)

Virtue Update – LOYALTY

June 13th, 2021

We have come to the final week of our school year! Summer is a good time to continue to intentionally practice the virtues of COMPASSION, PERSEVERANCE, RESPONSIBILITY, and LOYALTY as we seek to love God and others.

CCE Corner – Logic: STEM at Trinitas, Part III

June 9th, 2021

You may be thinking, “We covered the `M’ with mathematics, and the `S’ is for science, but there’s no `L’ for logic in STEM; and, where’s the technology and engineering at Trinitas? The short answer is that a rigorous education in math, science, and logic, along with an in-depth study of languages, prepares our students exceptionally well for advanced study and work in STEM fields. A substantial number of our graduates are currently studying or working in the areas of biology, neuroscience, medicine, computer science, and engineering. Continue reading to understand why.

Simply put, the study of logic prepares our students for STEM because it is the study of reasoning itself. Logic is foundational and so especially valuable for subjects that make use of arguments and problem-solving like mathematics, computer science, engineering, and philosophy, but it is beneficial for nearly any subject because it teaches students to understand the relationship of ideas–how to define and classify terms with precision, how to draw inferences and test hypotheses, how to properly get from premises or assumptions to conclusions, and how to determine which arguments are valid and sound and which arguments are weak, muddled, or fallacious. Studying logic develops students’ minds so they are capable of more and more complex chains of reasoning and better able to discern truth from falsehood.

Awards Night and Graduation

June 5th, 2021

We are looking forward to Awards Night and Graduation next Thursday, June 10, at 7:00 p.m. We will recognize our Kindergarten and 8th grade graduates and will present special awards. We will also take a moment to recognize each class. Attendance is expected for full-time students as students in all grades will sing that evening. While we have planned to be outside that evening, the weather (rain or heat) may move the program inside. Students may bring their household members. Families of 8th grade graduates may bring up to four additional guests.

Please watch for an email next week with important details related to Awards Night and Graduation (student arrival time, parking, tie rental return, etc.).

This is a dress uniform event. Students should arrive in dress uniform:
