Notae Latinae – Roman Elections and TJCL

April 1st, 2021

Friends, Trinitas students, classmates…will be lending their ears! The 7th and 8th Latin students will be giving their campaign speeches at lunchtime on Monday, April 19. Voting will take place on the 21st, which is Rome’s birthday. While the results are never in doubt for this annual activity, it still holds plenty of surprise and excitement!

Our upcoming TJCL afternoon is taking shape. Thank you, students and parents, for your enthusiastic response! All Trinitas families are welcome to join us for the last 30-45 minutes (starting at 3:45 p.m.) for the awards presentation, a Latin singalong, birthday cake for Rome, and some fun fellowship. Please note that children 5th grade and younger will need to be supervised by their parents during that time.

Teacher Appreciation Week is celebrated the first full week of May each year. Over the course of the week, PSF plans to host an appreciation luncheon, and coordinate opportunities for gift-giving and other blessings, for all of our faculty and staff. Please watch for more details. If you have traditionally given a gift to Trinitas teachers at the end of the school year, consider “showering” our faculty and staff with us the week of May 3-7.

Congratulations, GeoBee Finalists!

April 1st, 2021

Our 3rd-8th graders engaged in a rigorous geography competition this week, and we are pleased to announce our school champion is Landon K. Congratulations, Landon! Our runners-up were Tommy K., Gabriel F., Truman M., Sonia T., and Ayanna S. Additional classroom finalists were Sam H., Isla M., Noah W., Justin M., Isaac F., Sophia S., and Lily T. Well done!

Students in grades K-2 enjoyed seeing and touching special items from around the world (and guessing which country they came from) and playing an interactive geo trivia game.

CCE Corner – Writing at Trinitas, Grades 5-8

March 19th, 2021

We continue our series on the three “R’s” of education with a post on ‘Riting (a.k.a. “Writing”) at Trinitas in grades 5-8. In previous posts, we’ve been exploring Francis Bacon’s idea that writing makes “an exact man.” Of course, not all writing makes persons more exact (think of most social media posts), but good writing, the kind of writing we strive to teach at Trinitas, does help students learn not merely to “express themselves,” but to conform their thoughts and words more and more to the realities, the possibilities, and the promise of God’s world and the Word. What does this look like in our upper grades?

Writing in grades 5-8 builds on the strong foundation of observation, imitation, drill, and practice built in grades K-4. Writing instruction continues to be tied to literature instruction because we believe that students learn how to write well by learning how to read well. Both of these skills require learning how to listen well. Because of this, teacher and students read large portions of many of the texts, especially the difficult ones, aloud in class. And together they make observations, from the smallest details and literary devices to the largest ultimate questions about Man, his relationship to God and to Nature, and the meaning of life.

Notae Latinae (Latin Notes)

March 19th, 2021

Our Trinitas Junior Classical League event is just a few weeks away! Latin students in 6th-8th grade, as members of the Junior Classical League are invited to participate in our “ludī Latinī” (Latin fun and games) on Saturday, April 24. We expect several of our 2020 grads to attend as well. Parents should watch for a flyer next week. All families will be invited to join us at the end of the afternoon for our awards ceremony and reception. Roman attire encouraged!

It will soon be Roman election season at Trinitas! Our 7th/8th candidates will be making speeches prior to voting day, April 21 (Rome’s birthday). We hope to share the speeches with the school during a Latin at Lunchtime presentation.

Gr. 3-4 African Feast

March 19th, 2021

We wish to thank all who provided food for last week’s African Feast. We also want to thank our special guests for sharing their stories of growing up in Africa. This annual feast day is always a highlight for Mrs. Bodine’s students after many weeks of geography study.

Virtue Update – RESPONSIBILITY

March 19th, 2021

As we continue to focus on the virtue of RESPONSIBILITY, we remember that we are responsible for the gifts God has given us: “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” I Peter 4:10.

Keep Dressing for the Weather

March 18th, 2021

We have seen some lovely days already, and we have been able to eat lunch outside on a few occasions, but it’s still early spring. A 60 degree day can be followed by a 40 degree day, so please be sure your child has clothes and outerwear warm enough for P.E. and recess. We are opening windows in the classrooms more often to allow for better air circulation, so students might need a uniform sweater or fleece in the classroom as well.
