School News

Details about Field Day will be sent early next week, including team assignments (Blue, Gray, and Yellow). Students are asked to wear team colors that morning, so please watch for that message to know what color shirt your child needs. Parents and younger siblings are welcome to attend and cheer for our teams. Parent and alumni volunteers are needed to help with the activity stations and record scores. If you are able to help next Friday morning, please contact the office.

Awards Night and Graduation

Parents, grandparents, and other loved ones are invited to Awards Night and Graduation on Thursday, June 9. We will recognize our students’ accomplishments and celebrate our graduates. This is a required dress uniform event for all full-time students as the music class choirs will be singing. Please plan to stay for the reception which will follow the program.

Community Picnic

The last day of school is Friday, June 10. It is a half day which will be followed by our Community Picnic at Pinewood Park. The park has a playground, splash pad, and open fields for various sports and games. More details will be announced soon, including a lunch delivery option.

Thank you to our 7th graders for their Latin at Lunchtime presentation of “Aenigmata in Obscuritate” (the “Riddles in the Dark” scene from The Hobbit). We commend them for their excellent Latin translation and pronunciation!

The 5/6 Latin class has been working on their own special production that will “air” next week. They have developed a Latin morning show, “Roma Hodie” (“Rome Today”), to share with the Primer A and Primer B students.

The miles are adding up, and the finish line is in sight! Mileage Club will continue until Field Day. Please remember to send running shoes every day.

The St. Mark preschool is building a shed near the playground. Volunteers have been preparing the space and pouring a cement pad. As construction gets underway, please keep an eye on your child when on the playground after school and stay clear of that area.

Thank you to everyone who submitted the Community Lunch survey. We learned there is interest in resuming lunches for the 2022-2023 school year. If you would enjoy helping in some way, please watch for more information this summer.

Though we will go our separate ways after June 10, it’s always nice to reconnect during the summer. There will be some summer socials for the whole community, like the mid-summer picnic, but we encourage parents to arrange a playdate or a trip to the pool, library, or ice cream shop. (Why not all three?) Families with children moving into the “even” grades might consider connecting with those who will be new in the classrooms’ “odd” grades. (Note: The grades themselves aren’t odd. The numbering is!)

We continue to learn about and practice GRATITUDE. Consider starting a gratitude journal—record three things you are thankful for each day. Then offer your thanks to God, the giver of all good gifts.

It was good to be together last Friday for Fine Arts Night to celebrate God’s good gifts of music and art and laughter! We thank those who helped by hanging artwork or providing refreshments. We offer special thanks to Mrs. Roossien and Mrs. Poortenga for the many hours they spent preparing the students for FAN. We appreciate their time and their dedication to this event.

Rep. Steve Johnson from Michigan’s 72nd House of Representatives district visited the 3/4 classroom last Friday. He discussed many topics with the students who just concluded a research project on modern presidents. The students asked excellent questions about his time in the Air Force as well as what he does in Lansing. Rep. Johnson was very engaging in his discussion with our courteous and attentive students.
