Coming Soon – Speech Meet

September 24th, 2021

One goal we have at Trinitas is for our students to be comfortable and articulate in front of an audience. The annual Speech Meet provides one opportunity to practice the skills necessary for this. Students will be memorizing and reciting material of their choice in front of their classmates and judges.

At this point, we anticipate the Speech Meet will take place in mid-November. All full-time Trinitas students, grades K-8, will participate in the Speech Meet. We hope to be able to invite parents to attend this year too. Please watch for more details next week and a guidelines sheet that will give instructions for selecting material.

Donuts with Dad Next Wednesday, September 22

September 17th, 2021

Donuts with Dad is a favorite fall tradition at Trinitas! We hope dads (or VIPs) can join us on the morning of Wednesday, September 22, from 7:45-8:15 a.m. for drinks, donuts, and fellowship. If your child is a big breakfast eater, think like a hobbit and treat this as “second breakfast”.

Morning drop-off will be upstairs (the dismissal lot) for all students. K-2 students should leave their belongings by the narthex coat room. All others may go to their classrooms first, if they arrive early enough to do so. Following donut time, Dads and VIPs are welcome to stay for Morning Prayer at 8:15 a.m. Morning Prayer will conclude around 8:30 a.m.

Virtue Update – SELF-DISCIPLINE

September 17th, 2021

We grow in virtue by practice. Fortunately, there are many ways to practice SELF-DISCIPLINE. One way is to practice SELF-DISCIPLINE in our speech, following the advice of the familiar saying: “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.” That one is certainly easier said than done! And, it’s a good one to practice throughout the quarter.

CCE Corner – Lives of Faith, Reason, and Virtue, part I

September 16th, 2021

When we founded Trinitas Classical School in 2006, we considered various taglines for our marketing materials. Among them were, “the education you wish you had; the education your child can have” (a sentiment true for many of us) and “Trinitas—a school without walls” (a somewhat humorous attempt to cope with our struggle to find a facility). We chose to use “preparing students for lives well-lived,” and that has been our tagline for the last fifteen years. We’ve made a shift recently though in an attempt to avoid ambiguity about what we mean by “lives well-lived.” There are, after all, a myriad of visions of what a good or the good life is. Our new tagline makes explicit what we understand a well-lived life to be—we are “preparing students for lives of faith, reason, and virtue.” A brief explication of each of these seems like a good way to begin the new school year.

That “faith” appears first in our list is no accident. The Christian faith is both our starting point and our end; it is the foundation of our curricular, extra-curricular, and cultural choices, and it is a goal for which we believe each of us was made and toward which we strive. For an understanding of faith, we could perhaps do no better than Hebrews 11, a chapter our fifth-eighth graders memorize every other year. (We encourage you to read and discuss it this week with your family.) The author begins with a definition: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders [ancients] obtained a good testimony [were commended]. By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.”

CCE Corner – 100 Days of Dante Has Begun . . .

September 10th, 2021

…but it’s not too late to join! The first video appeared this Wednesday. New videos are released every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Use the link below to sign up for email notifications. You can also find the videos on YouTube. Please remember that you do not need to have a background in medieval literature or read Italian or be especially smart to participate. There are no pre-requisites other than a curious mind. The reading schedule was designed to be manageable!

We sometimes refer to a Trinitas education as “the education you wish you had”; 100 Days of Dante gives parents the opportunity for that education! Please watch for details about discussion group opportunities.

Arrival & Dismissal Reminders

September 10th, 2021

Everyone benefits when traffic flows smoothly! Our morning drop-offs and afternoon pick-ups are going well overall. Here are a couple reminders as we head into week two.

In the morning, pull forward to the first available spot, even if no one is immediately behind you when you arrive. It is tempting to stop by the sidewalk (thus making a shorter trip from vehicle to door), but others may soon follow you, and back-ups do happen.

In the afternoon, please be sure that Mr. Marth (or whoever is presiding over the process) can see your family name card. Depending on the angle of the sun, weather conditions, etc., he may not be able to see through your windshield. You may need to take the name card down from the visor and hold it up or wave it out the window.

For safety and absence/tardy recording purposes, parents must stop in the office and sign the SIGN IN/OUT form if students arrive late in the morning or are picked up after 3:15 p.m. The form must also be signed if a student is picked up or dropped off any time during school hours, e.g., for an appointment.
