Virtue Update – GRATITUDE

May 13th, 2022

Jesus sent out his disciples with these words: “Freely you have received; freely give” (Matthew 10:8b). GRATITUDE for what we have received from God should make us generous. Talk together about what it means to “freely receive” from God and then to “freely give” to others—to our parents, grandparents, siblings, teachers, fellow classmates, teammates, et al.

IMPORTANT – Fine Arts Night Details You Need to Know

April 30th, 2022

Fine Arts Night is next Friday at 7:00 p.m. All students should arrive in dress uniform by 6:40 p.m. and report to the upstairs classrooms. Please check for loose buttons on blazers. Reminder: Girls’ socks or tights should be white. No leggings under skirts and no sweaters, please.

If your child is bringing an instrument, music, costume, or props, please arrive by 6:35 so there is time to place any necessary item where it belongs before the program begins.

All Trinitas families and guests should use the upper parking lot and main narthex entrance (access to the lot is from Maple Creek Ave., not 52nd St.). You are welcome to wander through our gallery of student artwork (Room 223) before the program.

Plan to stay for food and fellowship after the program and another opportunity to admire the art. Please note this event will not be live streamed or recorded. Space will be available in the front row and near the grand piano for you to record your student(s) with your personal device.

PSF is looking for volunteers to make this a Fine Arts Night to remember! We still need several people to provide treats. Food may be brought to school earlier on Friday or in the evening. We are also asking for parents to help hang artwork on Thursday, May 5. To sign up for either or both of these service opportunities, use the link in the all-school newsletter.

Registration will open soon.

This program is made possible through a Vital Worship Grant from the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship, Grand Rapids, Michigan, with funds provided by Lilly Endowment Inc.

REMINDER – Standardized Testing Week

The tests will be given in the morning each of those days, finishing by 11:30 a.m. All students, whether in 3/4, 5/6, or 7/8, need sufficient sleep and healthy breakfasts next week so they can do their best work on the tests.

Virtue Update – GRATITUDE

April 30th, 2022

GRATITUDE is evident (or not) in how we speak and listen to others. It’s more than just saying “Thank you.” Talk together as a family about what it looks like to be grateful in our interactions with peers, teachers, siblings, parents, grandparents….

CCE Corner – Super Stories

April 28th, 2022

Chances are you’ve heard this story before. An ordinary citizen going about an ordinary day suddenly gains superhuman power (from a fancy suit, an insect bite, an experiment gone wrong). Maybe our hero is truly superhuman, like a surprisingly normal-looking alien masquerading behind a pair of glasses. (Seriously, could no one figure out that Clark Kent was Superman?) With this great new power comes great responsibility, as the saying goes. Our new hero (superhero!) might fight that responsibility at first, perhaps feeling unworthy or perhaps feeling the enormity of the task. But our hero eventually submits to duty, bringing justice to a corrupt city and saving it from a maniacal villain.

Superhero movies are popular to say the least. Consider this: there have been more than two dozen Marvel movies in just fifteen years. It’s no surprise that they generate interest—and revenue. They are full of action, adventure, and intrigue. Just about every emotion we are capable of feeling is on display at some point: love, fear, anger, regret, doubt, joy, grief, hope.

Swordsmanship Class

April 22nd, 2022

If your child knows what King Arthur, Aragorn, and Inigo Montoya have in common, then he or she might have participated in Tuesday’s swordsmanship class, described as “epic” by one attendee. We’re sure if you asked the students about it, they would spar no details.* They used longswords and learned about the Medieval German style of swordsmanship. Training manuals from that era have survived to this day. The last hour of the workshop was spent sparring—the students’ favorite part!
*We couldn’t resist. The pun is mightier than the sword.
