REMINDER – COVID Symptom Checklist

January 29th, 2021

February is typically a month that brings increased illness and school absences. This year, the potential for symptoms to be connected to COVID makes symptom monitoring and illness-prevention measures all the more important.

Please review the Kent Country Health Department’s K-12 COVID-19 Symptom and Testing Protocol for guidance about how to proceed if concerning symptoms develop in your household. Healthcare evaluation is needed if:

Any TWO of the following develop:
Fever (measured or subjective)
Chills
Headache
Extreme tiredness/fatigue
Sore Throat
Congestion or runny nose
Body aches
Nausea/vomiting or diarrhea

OR

ONE of the following develops:
New cough
Loss of taste or smell
Shortness of breath

Thank you for your efforts to keep our students and staff healthy so we can remain on campus and continue learning together in our classrooms!

Virtue Update – RESPONSIBILITY

January 29th, 2021

We begin this quarter’s virtue focus on RESPONSIBILITY with a quote from Booker T. Washington that is on our hall and classroom posters: “Few things help an individual more than to place responsibility upon him and to let him know that you trust him.” We might add to Washington’s quote: And patiently help equip him to live up to that responsibility. If you have a student who is struggling to be responsible with his or her stuff or time, this summary of the book That Crumpled Paper Was Due Last Week might give you some good ideas to try (a goal sheet is included).

Tuition Freeze for Next Year

January 21st, 2021

Tuition for the 2021-2022 school year has been frozen at 2019 rates in recognition of the financial instability and uncertainty families continue to face as a result of the pandemic and the measures put in place to slow the spread of COVID-19 over the past ten months. This marks the second year with no increase in tuition and fees for families seeking a Christian, classical education. Trinitas remains devoted to the mission of providing an education in faith, reason, and virtue to all of its students in a way that is sustainable for the school and for its families.

CCE Corner – Writing

January 21st, 2021

After two posts on Reading, we’ve come to the second “R” of education: Riting [a.k.a. “Writing”]. Our 5th-8th grade language arts teacher is fond of the following quotation by 16th century English philosopher and statesman Francis Bacon: “Reading maketh a full man; conference a ready man; and writing an exact man”.* In this Classical Christian Education Corner, we use Bacon’s words as inspiration for thinking more about words–those read, spoken, and written.

“Reading maketh a full man.” A “full man” is not one who has eaten too much at dinner. He is “A man whose mind is richly stored with knowledge.” A classical approach to reading–thoughtfully, deeply, and widely–increases those stores. More than that, however, if one reads edifying material, those things that St. Paul calls “true, lovely, excellent, and praiseworthy,” such reading can help to fill one’s mind and heart in such a way as to make one more fully human, more fully the person God intends. Good reading not only fills one’s mind, it helps one become a better, more complete person. In other words, reading not only makes a man full, it also makes a full man.

Next Parent Information Night – February 10

January 20th, 2021

Please continue to spread the word about our upcoming Parent Information Night (PIN) on Wednesday, February 10. Most Trinitas families learned about our school by word-of-mouth “advertising”. While students and parents will not be participating in this virtual event, we need your help to tell others about the benefits of Christian classical education. Please share this registration link with friends and neighbors.

Virtue Update – PERSEVERANCE

January 20th, 2021

We end the quarter with a quotation not from a classical orator or a church father but from a Presbyterian minister and host of a wholesome children’s television show. The following words from Mr. Rogers teach us about the virtues of both our first and second quarters, COMPASSION and PERSEVERANCE: “There are three ways to ultimate success. The first way is to be kind. The second way is to be kind. The third way is to be kind.”
